IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Nexavar in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel is contraindicated in patients with squamous cell lung cancer. Cardiac ischemia and/or myocardial infarction may occur. Temporary or permanent discontinuation of Nexavar should be considered in patients who develop cardiac ischemia and/or myocardial infarction. An increased risk of bleeding may occur following Nexavar administration. If bleeding necessitates medical intervention, consider permanent discontinuation of Nexavar. continue reading below »

Study design and objectives in the SHARP Trial

SHARP—Sorafenib HCC Assessment Randomized Protocol Trial

Study design ECOG PS=Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status.

End points1

  • A primary end point was overall survival (OS)
  • A primary end point was time to symptomatic progression
  • A secondary end point was time to tumor progression (TTP)

Inclusion criteria1*:

  • Histologically proven HCC
  • Advanced HCC
  • Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS) 0-2
    • Patients in this performance status range are independent and require minimal assistance with activities of daily living
  • ≥1 measurable untreated lesion
  • Child-Pugh class A (mild hepatic impairment)
    • The trial restricted enrollment to patients with Child-Pugh A disease because impairment of liver function associated with Child-Pugh class B or C could have confounded the results
  • No prior systemic treatment
  • Treatment arms were well balanced
*Additional inclusion/exclusion criteria apply.

Treatment continuation1:

  • Treatment with Nexavar or placebo was continued until both radiologic and symptomatic progression (per protocol definition) were reached, adverse reactions requiring discontinuation of study treatment occurred, or the patient died

Important Safety Consideration

  • Cardiac ischemia and/or myocardial infarction may occur. Temporary or permanent discontinuation of Nexavar should be considered in patients who develop cardiac ischemia and/or myocardial infarction
